A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Leon Lagnado to study the flow of information controlling visually-driven behaviour. The project involves a combination of experiments and modelling. Fluorescent reporters of neural activity will be used in conjunction with advanced imaging methods and behavioural assays to investigate how the signals transmitted through different visual pathways in larval zebrafish determine behavioural outputs such as the optomotor response, prey capture and escape response. We are particularly interested in how neuromodulators adjust the efficiency of information transmission in early visual processing and how this impacts these behaviours.
We are a well-funded, diverse and active research group (https://lagnadolab.com) embedded in a strong research culture (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/sussexneuroscience/).
We are located in the vibrant city of Brighton and London is 1 hour away.
Informal enquiries are strongly encouraged (please drop me a line!) and should be made to Leon Lagnado (l.lagnado@sussex.ac.uk).
Applicants should have a strong background in a quantitative subject related to neuroscience (this could be experimental or computational).
The University is committed to equality and valuing diversity, and applications are particularly welcomed from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) at Sussex.
Please note that this position may be subject to ATAS clearance if you require visa sponsorship.

The University of Sussex values the diversity of its staff and students and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
