Applications are invited for the position of a Research Assistant to join the group of Prof Elisa Laurenti within the Department of Haematology/Cambridge Stem Cell Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The post-holder will perform research for a project funded by UKRI which aims to improve blood stem cell function in the context of clinical applications that require ex vivo culture. The specific focus of this post will be on transient or permanent gene editing of blood stem cells.
The post holder will be well-grounded in basic cell and molecular biology techniques and will have excellent communication and organisational skills. The post-holder will primarily undertake experiments editing primary human blood stem cells cultured ex vivo and assessing their function. The post-holder will also support the research team in a wide variety of molecular and cellular approaches.
The post holder must have research laboratory experience in cell biology (preferably blood cell biology), cell culture and gene editing (CRISPR-based methods, strategy design and application to cells). Specific experience in HSC biology, general cloning techniques and flow cytometry are highly desirable. The successful candidate must hold a degree in a relevant related subject.
This position is at available from 0.5 to 1.0 full time equivalent.
Fixed term: The funds for this post are available for one year in the first instance.
