This post lies within the School of Clinical Medicine in the Postgraduate Education and Clinical Academic Training (PECAT) section and provides pro-active and confidential administrative support for all matters relating to postgraduate education across the School's 20 Departments, Units and Institutes. This includes the admission, supervision, progress and examination of approximately 900 postgraduate students across the Faculties of Clinical Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
Reporting to the Secretary of the Degree Committee for the Faculties of Clinical Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, the role holder will provide administrative support for the Degree Committee which has responsibility for admissions, student progress, examination and degree award as well as complaints and appeals and other matters relating to postgraduate study.
The post carries significant responsibility for the smooth progress of postgraduate students through their courses and the final award of their degrees as well as interactions with a wide range of academic staff both internally and externally to the University. The work requires independence, good judgement and a high level of accuracy and reliability and carries with it a level of risk in that errors may have serious consequences for students.
PECAT is a dynamic and varied work environment with continuously changing demands. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to gain further experience and good working knowledge of administration in a higher education setting, including utilising communication applications such as MSTeams, sharepoint and zoom.
We invite applications from individuals who have an outstanding approach to work: being highly meticulous, accurate, and organised; willing to take on new challenges and responsibilities; quick to adapt to change; highly flexible in approach and able to work under pressure and with a wide and complex workload. They will have good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a helpful and diplomatic manner with a wide range of people at all levels. Importantly, we are looking for a conscientious team member who will contribute to PECAT's continuing success.
Applicants will have experience of working in an administrative role, preferably in an educational setting; working knowledge of the University processes around postgraduate examination; working knowledge of CamSIS (or other University student records management system); working knowledge of MSTeams and document sharing via SharePoint and other communications applications such as Zoom; a good standard of numeracy, literacy, and a high standard of IT competence (being able to rapidly acquire the facility to use web-based systems and communication applications). They will be educated to A-Level standard or higher, with at least GCSE equivalent in English and Mathematics. Previous administrative/secretarial experience working in a Higher Education would be an advantage.
The role is full-time (permanent), and job-share is available. We also offer flexible working at home and office.
Deadline for applications: 29 September 2024
