We are seeking an enthusiastic new member to join our team of skilled technicians in the Undergraduate Teaching laboratories and you will provide wider cover for the team, when necessary. You will assist in the process of setting out and preparing laboratory equipment and materials for undergraduate practical classes ensuring that the laboratories are ready for use on time and with the items needed by the students.
You will work alongside technician colleagues, academics, demonstrators, and undergraduate students to provide the laboratory items needed, as and when they are needed to ensure practical classes run smoothly.
Working as part of the team and following training, you will also assist in the cleaning up after practical classes and ensure the safe and efficient disposal of all used materials such as glassware and plastics.
You may also assist in other areas of Technical Services within the remit of your role and grade if necessary and as appropriate.
It is vital that as a team we are presenting these classes in a calm, professional manner to ensure our students receive excellent service and support to make this a great laboratory experience.
Please note this role can be quite physically demanding at times.
You will be provided with full training on appointment.

About You
You will have previous experience of working independently and flexibly as well as being able to work to tight deadlines. You will have an ability to follow verbal and written instructions and be able to work without direct supervision. Being a team player is essential, as is having a confident manner and an ability to demonstrate and apply clear verbal communication skills. You will need some knowledge of various types of laboratory equipment and experiments. You will have a practical focus and also have some understanding of good laboratory practice. A general knowledge of health and safety and associated good practices in a laboratory environment, including an awareness and appreciation of COSHH regulations and SOPS. Knowledge of the wide range of consumable equipment used in lab classes would be desirable.
