We are looking for a Teaching Technical Specialist with a passion for educating the next generation of engineers. You will ensure that our spaces are impeccably prepared for instruction and comply with all Health and Safety regulations and relevant policies. Additionally, you will provide expert guidance and training in essential techniques and processes.

Our state-of-the-art facilities include two teaching laboratories, a cutting-edge Engineering Bay workshop, Fabrication Space, Electrical & Project Space, and a Rapid Fabrication Laboratory. Our equipment boasts advanced tools such as light structural material testing machines, workshop fabrication equipment, pillar drills, laser cutters, 3D printers, and more.

This position is well-suited for individuals with experience as a classroom technician, laboratory technician, or those who have supported student workshops and classrooms.

Please note that this role requires on-site presence due to operational needs.

Please note that this role is internally recognised as a ‘Teaching Technician’.

What will you be doing?

  • Be the Go-To Expert: Act as the primary contact for students and academics, offering exceptional support and guidance in our innovative teaching spaces.
  • Lead the Way: Supervise and manage teaching spaces, ensuring they are fully stocked, well-maintained, and primed for hands-on learning.
  • Collaborate and Innovate: Work closely with academic staff to enhance and support both current and future practical lessons.
  • Team Player: Provide valuable support to various team projects and initiatives, sharing your expertise wherever it’s needed.
  • Problem Solver: Proactively tackle and resolve any issues that arise, ensuring a seamless teaching experience.
  • Champion Safety: Promote and maintain safe and effective working practices within the teaching space.

You should apply if

  • Passion for Mentorship: A genuine enthusiasm for working with students and helping them reach their full potential.
  • Hands-On Experience: Practical experience with common engineering tools and equipment.
  • Curiosity and Learning: An eagerness to learn and maintain new equipment, including laser cutters and 3D printers.
  • Safety First: A strong understanding of safe working practices in an engineering environment.
  • Teaching and Coaching Skills: Experience in teaching or coaching, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Tech Savvy: Good IT skills and the ability to quickly learn and use new software or IT systems.
