The School of Environmental Sciences has an exciting new post available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. You will join an international multi-disciplinary team of researchers working between our school, the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences, in Liverpool, the Abdus Salam Institute of Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy and research teams and collaborators based in the Horn of Africa countries - Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and Somaliland.
The position is associated with the CLIMate SEnsitive DISease Forecasting Tool (CLIMSEDIS) project, awarded by the Wellcome Trust. CLIMSEDIS will develop and build capacity in the use of an innovative user-friendly disease forecasting tool. It will use extended seasonal climate forecast models to drive dynamical disease models and provide an alert for multiple climate sensitive diseases, with a focus on malaria, Rift Valley Fever, arboviruses such as chikungunya, dengue and yellow fever, and cholera. If time allows, the project also proposed to study anthrax and Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever. This disease forecasting tool will allow end-user stakeholders to utilise forecasts and delineate sub-national risk to inform timely, and targeted intervention strategies in the East Africa. The post is available for 24 months from October/November 2024.
