The Babraham Institute is recruiting for a part-time (22 hours/3 days per week) Image Analyst to help support the services provided by the Institute’s Imaging Facility. The Image Analyst will be the primary point of contact for Facility users who want to extract quantitative data from microscopy images. The image analyst will work with Facility Users to develop effective strategies to process and analyse image data, and to help them present output data in formats suitable for publication.
The post holder will be familiar with the concepts of feature enhancement, image segmentation and feature extraction. Ideally, they will have significant experience in one or more areas of advanced light microscopy image analysis such as high content image analysis, 3D confocal image analysis, 3D light-sheet analysis, single molecule localisation microscopy data analysis, ultra-plex data analysis, FLIM data analysis. Limited training will be available, but it is expected that the post holder will have in-depth knowledge of one or more open-source microscopy image analysis software packages such as ImageJ/FIJI, CellProfiler, Napari. They may also have expertise with commercial microscopy image analysis software packages such as Imaris, Amira, Huygens. There will also be an expectation for the Image Analyst to keep abreast of advancements in the image analysis field and apply cutting-edge techniques where appropriate.
The Image Analyst will be involved with multiple projects and work with Facility users with diverse backgrounds and requirements. They will have a highly collaborative approach and a strong desire to help others achieve their objectives. The post holder will be friendly and approachable with excellent verbal communication skills. They will have a creative mindset and the ability understand complex requirements with limited information. The post holder will have a PhD or equivalent experience in the biological sciences with strong evidence of image analysis experience, or a PhD or equivalent experience in computer science, mathematics or physics with a good knowledge of the biological sciences.
In addition to image processing and analysis responsibilities, the post holder will develop and deliver appropriate training courses on image processing and analysis techniques and tools. They will work closely with the Facility Head to develop appropriate Data Management policies. They will ensure Institute image data allies to the principles of “FAIR” and help Group Leaders make their image data available through appropriate repositories. They will actively engage with the external research community, developing new collaborations and new opportunities to drive external revenue.
