We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the Anaerobic Digestion team of the Energy2050 research group in the School of Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Engineering. The successful applicant will support the delivery of two Innovate UK projects: the investigation of flexible biogas production in a two-stage AD system and the use of anaerobic digestate as nutrient in hydroponics systems. The projects include UK and Nigerian industrial partners; therefore the post holder will be exposed to, and benefit from all aspects of the wider project including biological experimental investigations, pilot scale process and industrial contributions and perspectives.
Core activities will include day-to-day support to experimental laboratory activities, training of other PhD and MSc students working in the Lab, experimental data analysis and report writing, support to publication writing. The Applicant must have at least a MSc, with PhD desirable, in a relevant discipline such as Chemical/Biochemical/Environmental Engineering or Microbiology.
Experience in operating and monitoring anaerobic digestion experiments is essential, including analytical techniques for biowaste and digestate characterisation and for biogas composition.
Experience in experimental rig building and development is desirable.
The appointment will last initially for 6 months with possibility of extension if additional funding will become available.
