This project has been funded by a leading company in flow control products for oil and gas mid- / down-stream operations and the Royal Academy of Engineering. The overall goal is to develop a new technology for attaining a zero-spill to the environment during tanker breakout in a typical mid- or downstream operation involving low-viscosity refined petroleum products. The project will involve design and optimisation of analytical, numerical, computational and experimental processes for achieving the zero-spill technology.
The successful candidate will work on a 15% FTE as a Senior Researcher at the University of Aberdeen. It will require solving relevant systems of equations, developing a suite of computational fluids dynamics and multi-physics models, and conducting lab-to-pilot scale experiments. The applicant should be an independent scientist with expertise on development of models for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and flow facilities, and proven programming skills in Python, C/C++ and/or other object-oriented programming languages. Applicants should also have excellent interpersonal skills as they will work closely with engineering teams at the host company and the University to transfer and embed the software model tool, while integrating data and feedback.
The Associate will be supported by Dr. Lateef Akanji at the University of Aberdeen and a designated officer at the host company. Dr Akanji has worked extensively with industrial partners on over £1.2M of funded projects in recent years and is an expert in CFD, mathematical programming, intelligent data analysis and lab/pilot scale experimental processes. The designated industry supervisors will bring over 20 years of engineering experience acquired through direct involvement in various product design and development projects.
Salary will be at Grade 8, £57,696 per annum pro rata for 0.15 FTE, actual rate of pay £8,654.40 per annum.
Informal enquiries should be made to Dr. Lateef Akanji, Senior Lecturer in Engineering, e-mail: l.akanji@abdn.ac.uk.
