Birmingham City University (BCU) is seeking a Full Time Senior Lecturer in Fashion Design to shape and elevate the womenswear design focus within the Fashion Design course. This role requires initiating, leading, and contributing to research and scholarly activities, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or exhibitions.
We are looking for a highly creative and talented individual with specific expertise and experience in womenswear fashion design to join our fashion team. You will teach a range of creative and practical modules in the BA (Hons) Fashion Design course, including three-dimensional design, fashion design realisation, and portfolio development. Practical industry experience in a womenswear fashion design studio environment is essential, and prior relevant experience in the Higher Education sector is preferred.
About You
We are seeking a creative, self-motivated individual to contribute to the ongoing delivery of Womenswear design, with a deep understanding of fit, function, silhouette, and contemporary cutting techniques for our BA Fashion Design courses. You should possess excellent knowledge of draping practices and garment construction methods to support students in developing their technical and design realisation skills. Proficiency in fashion drawing, illustration, and portfolio development, using both hand-rendered techniques and Adobe Suite applications, is highly desirable. The ideal candidate should bring a blend of contemporary vision and forward-thinking ideas to all aspects of fashion design, with a strong focus on sustainable practices and thoughtful garment construction. A commitment to research and continuous self-development in these areas is essential. A relevant qualification or significant experience in Fashion Design, Fashion Technology, or a related field is required.
