Following a restructure of the academic units in the College of Health and Science in the summer of 2024, a new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of School of Engineering and Physical Sciences in an area bringing together the previous schools of Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics & Physics. The new School comprises around 1550 students, of which around 30% are postgraduate (PGT and PGR) and around 90 academic staff and 20 researchers.
The role is suitable for an excellent academic and leader in any of the disciplinary fields covered by the School. You will enthuse a broad range of colleagues, and who deeply understands and can show effective strategic leadership, people skills, and resource management in research excellence, developing academic portfolio and broader educational provision, and creating industrial opportunities, particularly relevant to these disciplines. It is open to colleagues on both a research and/or scholarship/professional practice track.
You will be able to lead a diverse group of subjects, working increasingly inter-collaboratively within the School and across the wider College, to achieve excellent research outcomes, including notably preparing for the REF, high student satisfaction, an exciting portfolio of both standard u/g and p/g programmes, as well as educational contract, apprenticeship, and an increasingly diverse pattern of courses, and working both to strengthen our presence in the region, but also nationally and in many cases internationally.
Our research includes several important research groupings including “L-CAS” Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems Research (L-CAS) : https://lcas.lincoln.ac.uk/wp/ Centre for Computational Physics: https://comp-physics-lincoln.org/ and Sustainable Energy and Power Research Group https://www.lincoln.ac.uk/engphys/engineeringresearch/sustainableenergyandpower/.
If you would like further information or an informal discussion about this exciting opportunity, please contact Duncan French, Pro Vice Chancellor/ Head of College via Lucinda Gazzard, Strategic Project Manager to PVC at lgazzard@lincoln.ac.uk.
