About the role
We are looking for a Sales Assistant to join our friendly Retail & Ticketing Team, at the Ashmolean Museum.
You will work in the beautiful Museum shops, and at the Welcome Desk, as part of a small friendly team. You will help to maximise sales across our multiple shop sites - through the up selling of product, offering of Souvenir Guides, Membership and Gift Aid. You will follow operating procedures covering shop security and cash handling regulations and be willing to attend and take an active part in retail legislation and product training sessions. You will be a Retail Sales Assistant champion for one of the specialist areas of visual displays, stock, sales, service, jewellery, postcards or books. You will take incoming phone calls relating to basic shop queries and redirecting them to the appropriate area e.g. Online or Merchandising.
This is a fixed-term (maternity cover), variable hours post. It is anticipated that you will work approximately 20 hours a week, though this could vary depending on operational needs.
This role requires lifting and relocating deliveries to the respective shop or stock room locations.

About You
You will be passionate about meeting sales targets and supporting others in achieving theirs.
You will have good IT skills, previous experience working in a fast-paced, customer facing environment and enjoy being in a vibrant, busy environment.
An interest in art and archaeology, museums or galleries and the ability to speak a second language is desirable.
