Description of Post

The Lecturer in Nursing (General Nursing) will teach various elements of nursing to students the Donegal Campus on levels 6, 7, 8 and 9 programmes. It is expected that the Lecturer will take a particular interest in and foster the curriculum development of a number of topics. Part of this responsibility will involve collaboration with industry partners and other third-level institutions. The lecturer appointed to this post will have particular expertise and interest in post graduate nursing. 

The lecturer will join a curriculum development team to research and develop modules/programmes as appropriate. The lecturer will be expected to develop ‘best practice’ pedagogic methods that enhance the student’s learning. The teaching emphasis is on the development of relevant skills through the use of industry standard practices.

Part of the lectureship responsibility involves research and it is expected that the successful candidate will bring a strong interest and capacity for research, supervision and participate in strengthening the existing research teams.

The post-holder will be responsible to the Head of Department of Nursing, Healthcare.   

Appointment(s) may be on a permanent/fixed term/pro-rata/part-time basis as required at Lecturer level. A panel will be created for any vacancies that may arise in the future.

Please note: The postholder will be based at the ATU Donegal, Letterkenny Campus.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum

  • Actively registered on the General Nursing Register of Nurses and midwives as maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) - or be eligible to be so registered.
  • An NQAI Level 8 qualification or equivalent from a recognised degree awarding body. The programme followed should have involved the study of the art and science of nursing.
  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant Level 9 Programme [as specified in the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)] or equivalent.
  • Three years relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Expertise in general specialist care of nursing.
  • The recommended candidate must also pass a medical examination prior to taking up duty.

Desirable

  • Post Graduate qualification at Level 8/Level 9
  • Knowledge of digital health technologies/digital health transformation.
  • Relevant Post Graduate qualification at level 10.
  • Registered Nurse Tutor with NMBI or eligible to be registered.
  • Relevant teaching and/or research experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work in teams.
