This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Manager to join one of the largest politics and international relations departments in the world.  DPIR is a stimulating work environment, where our influential research plays a key role in tackling some of the central issues of today and of the future, examining how everyday governments and political systems impact our lives, shaping political economy, culture, conflict, legal rights and more on a global, national and local level.  The HR Manager has a key role within the senior administration of DPIR and is responsible for the HR operations of the Department, ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures in line with UK employment legislation

The HR Manager will report to the Head of Administration and Finance (HAF), and work closely with the Head of Department (HoD) and other senior staff members on people matters, strategy driven activities and in planning and implementing policies and processes that contribute to the development of the department and its employees. The HR Manager will also work closely and collaboratively with the wider Professional Services teams in the Department as well as work with the Social Sciences Divisional HR team, and central University teams that cover areas such as reward, staff immigration and global mobility

The ideal candidate should have a demonstrable understanding of the importance of effective HR management in an academic environment, have outstanding organisational skills, as well as a collaborative approach to work. They will be expected to acquire a thorough understanding of the University’s procedures to deliver creative solutions, and to foster constructive working relationships across the Department and with the wider University.  They will be qualified to CIPD graduate level or above or have equivalent experience. They will have demonstrable sound judgement in HR matters with detailed knowledge and experience of the application of UK employment law and UKVI regulations with an ability to evaluate risk. They will also have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and constructive working relationships at all levels of the department, division, and university, and to influence decisions, including at senior management level
