An exciting opportunity to contribute to expanding Birkbeck’s teaching and research in the field of Structural Geology as Associate Lecturer in Global Tectonics.
Based within the School of Natural Sciences, you will contribute to teaching in the field of Global Tectonics. You will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and will teach tectonics and large scale structural geology within the framework of Birkbeck’s B.Sc. Degree in Geology and associated Certificate courses. This is for a single Level 5 module, taught in the Summer, with an examination.
Practical experience and research in the general field of structural geology is desirable, as is experience with diverse teaching styles such as blended learning.
Teaching material will be made available to the successful candidate. The role involves delivering in person teaching sessions and setting and marking of assessments.
Salary and benefits
Payment is based on an hourly rate for contact hours worked. The specific rate depends on length of continuous service with the College and includes of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay. This hourly rate of £66.70 per hour is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract
The work would require 33 contact hours of teaching (11 sessions, each 6-9 pm) and a revision session as well as examination setting and marking. Teaching material, which you could use with little change or modify it as you like, already exists and teaching will be via full blended teaching with live lectures and practicals, livestreaming, recorded lectures and additional online resources. Closing date: 29 September 2024. Interview date: 7 October 2024.
