We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Research Fellow to help deliver a new ground-breaking study aiming to address racism at the end-of-life. This is a unique opportunity to impact policy and practice locally and nationally, improving outcomes for racialised groups at one of the most vulnerable points of life.
The Research Fellow will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr Jamilla Hussain, a Palliative Care consultant and clinical academic and be part of the world-leading and supportive Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group (YQSR).
The successful candidate will work with communities and stakeholders to co-develop an anti-racism framework to address palliative and end-of-life inequalities related to racism and prioritise, develop and test an intervention related to the framework. They will conduct high-quality research using a range of qualitative methods, including focus groups, interviews and a focused ethnography. Reporting and academic paper writing and contributing to future funding applications will also play a part in this role. Ensuring that research governance procedures and data protection are adhered to according to local and national guidance will be essential.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work alongside leading national and international experts in inequalities at the end-of-life, racism in healthcare, policy-making, and complex intervention development and evaluation. The study steering group includes national policy leads for end-of-life care across all four nations, providing the foundation for high impact.
The YQSR and Principal Investigator are keen to support the post-holder's career development, and the budget includes funding for training. We are looking for an experienced qualitative researcher and someone with/keen to develop an understanding of intervention development, evaluation and implementation science. You will also have an approachable manner and experience working with minoritised ethnic groups and diverse stakeholders relevant to health, social care or public health.
The successful candidate will have experience of organising and conducting research in a community setting (for example in healthcare, social care and/or Voluntary, Community or Social Enterprise (VCSE) settings), experience of project management and extensive experience of using multiple qualitative research methods (such as interviews, ethnography, focus groups, evidence synthesis). They will also have extensive experience of analysing qualitative datasets and writing up the findings (minimum two years’ experience).
