We have an exciting opportunity for an Archives Assistant to join Heritage Quay, the University of Huddersfield’s award-winning, accredited archives and records management service. Heritage Quay’s collection strengths are in Art & Design, Education, Literature, Music, Politics, Sport, and Theatre & Performance. For more information about our collections visit https://heritagequay.org/
The Archives and Records Management Service at Heritage Quay is a small team, which is part of Computing and Library Services. As an Archives Assistant, you will serve as the first point of contact for customers accessing the collections at Heritage Quay. Reporting to the Archivist (Public Service), your responsibilities include answering enquiries, facilitating access to collections, undertaking retrievals and returns, assisting with housekeeping tasks, performing collections-based work, and contributing to social media and occasional outreach activities and events.
With 2 A Levels or equivalent, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will be able to work effectively as part of a small team and provide excellent customer service, answering enquiries and requests for information efficiently and effectively. You will have good IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft 365, and social media. You will also be able to complete all physical requirements of the role and in particular be able to move and shelve moderate weights such as boxes of archive material and working at heights with or without a reasonable adjustment.
Days of work will be full days Tuesday, Wednesday and a half day Thursday morning (there may be some flexibility around when the half day is worked, to be discussed with the successful candidate). This post is in an in-person role based at Heritage Quay.
