3 Posts: Post 1 & 2 – Experimental, Post 3 – Computational
We are seeking three full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistants in Triboelectric Nanogenerators Based on Novel Framework Materials to join Prof. Jin-Chong Tan’s group (Multifunctional Materials & Composites Laboratory: eng.ox.ac.uk/mmclab) in the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford University. The posts are funded by the ERC Advanced Grant “TEGMOF” (UKRI Horizon Europe guarantee) and are fixed-term for 24 months (renewable on funding availability) and available immediately.
The research will focus on the experimental (posts 1&2) and modelling (post 3) studies of novel framework materials, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), for engineering triboelectric energy harvesters and ultrasensitive sensors for soft robotics and smart tires. A major aim of the project is to discover the basic mechanism(s) underlying triboelectrification processes, by means of multimodal experimental techniques and multiscale modelling methodologies.
You should hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in materials engineering / materials science / materials modelling / materials chemistry or physics / nanospectroscopy / nanomechanics, or relevant subjects. Candidates with prior experience in the design, development and engineering of MOF-based triboelectric nanogenerators are encouraged to apply. The applicant must be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in experimental and/or computational research.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof. Tan (email: jin-chong.tan@eng.ox.ac.uk)

Only online applications received before midday on 4th October 2024 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement please ensure you note which post you are applying for - Posts 1 & 2: Experimental studies or Post 3: Computational studies, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
