Brunel University London’s Arts and Health subject area in the Arts and Humanities is offering a part-funded PhD studentship for the academic year 2024/25. Starting in January 2025, the studentship spans four years (48 months) and provides an annual stipend of £6,500 for research-related costs, along with home tuition fee coverage. This opportunity is open to UK/home applicants, and recipients will also serve as General Teaching Assistants (GTA), supporting up to 150 hours of teaching or research annually. In collaboration with CNWL NHS Foundation Trust, GTAs will contribute to both Arts and Health studies and leadership programs.
The PhD will explore creativity, power relations, and leadership within the NHS, focusing on how organisational change can impact service delivery and patient experience. It will examine the intersection of healthcare staff wellbeing, cultures, and environments, with a particular interest in leadership theories, creativity and mixed research methods, and more-than-human concepts of workplace interaction.
Key areas of enquiry include:
The studentship welcomes applications from underrepresented groups, including women, LGBTQ+, Global Majority/BAME candidates, those with disabilities, and care leavers. This research will be conducted in partnership with CNWL NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK’s largest healthcare providers.
Eligibility
The studentship is awarded based on outstanding academic merit.
Candidates should have an undergraduate degree (first or upper second class) in a relevant subject. A Master’s degree is an advantage but not essential, preferably at distinction level or equivalent.
