The Department of Music at the University of Southampton invites applications for the post of Grant Manager for the AHRC Hub for Public Engagement with Music Research . This is a 20-month fixed-term appointment on a 0.2 FTE (one day a week) basis, with a start date of 1 November 2024.  Remote working is feasible although the role will require attending and/or organising in-person events.

You will be responsible for running the grant management aspects of the AHRC Hub for Public Engagement with Research hosted by Southampton’s Centre for Music Education and Social Justice. Foregrounding equitable approaches to social justice and public engagement with music research, this national Hub will advocate for co-creating participatory projects between academics and diverse sectors of society by pioneering accessible methodologies for researchers, organisations and public participants.

As Grant Manager you will lead the administration of the funding call, peer review process, selection panels/discussions and outcomes communication, as well as post-award grant maintenance of the funded project. You will also work with the team and partners to develop and deliver a range of events and training activities. The role will involve close collaboration with the University of Southampton academic team, the external co-lead, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Manager, spoke project teams, the Centre for Music Education and Social Justice, Public Engagement with Research unit, Public Policy Southampton and colleagues from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Finance team.

You will be an experienced administrator, ideally with grant and/or research project managerial experience. You will have proven experience of supporting research projects in specialist fields and of assisting research teams to apply for funding and/or managing funding schemes. You will be aware of national and international funding landscapes and peer review processes, with knowledge of public engagement and academic research. Some understanding of the music/arts sector and/or research field is desirable. You will be committed to applying and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion principles to the responsibilities of the role. You will have the experience necessary to manage multiple activities with minimal supervision, for example in delivering successful online and in-person events, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines. You will be able to work with colleagues to achieve outcomes and resolve complex problems, possessing the excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work with both academic and non-academic partners.

As a university we are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equal opportunities. We particularly welcome applications from women, disabled applicants and/or candidates from social and/or ethnic minorities who are currently under-represented in our university.

Please submit your completed application form online at  www.jobs.soton.ac.uk.

The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date. Online interviews will take place in October 2024.

Informal enquiries can be addressed to Erin Johnson-Williams and Ben Oliver at CMESJ_MusicPEHub@soton.ac.uk
