The University of Brighton Social Work department is seeking a new lecturer to join the team. Your expertise and experience will contribute to the delivery of high-quality social work education in the School of Humanities and Social Science. We are looking for a highly motivated social worker or social work academic. We are particularly interested in those with children and families experience, but this should not preclude any interested party from applying. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team of social work academics, based at the Moulsecoomb campus in Brighton.

You should be able to draw on foundational social work knowledge and experience as a basis for delivering the core social work curriculum, alongside your specialist area, across our undergraduate, postgraduate, and post-qualifying programmes. Applicants will be expected to engage with teaching, assessment, student support and development, both academically and placement-based, recruitment and knowledge exchange/research.

To be effective in this role, you will need:

  • A recognised social work qualification
  • Registration as a social worker with Social Work England
  • Good presentation skills, which will be assessed at interview
  • Competent IT skills and effective use of IT for teaching and learning

The University is committed to an inclusive environment which embraces equality and diversity in our working, learning, research, and teaching environment. The social work team takes seriously its commitment to creating a learning environment which is anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive and to foster these attributes in our graduates. We are seeking colleagues who understand equality, diversity, and inclusion, and how these principles can be applied in higher education, and within social work practice settings. We value self-awareness, in terms of understanding of the applicant's own culture, identity, biases, prejudices, power, privilege and stereotypes, as well as a willingness to challenge practices that present barriers to different groups in social work education.

This is a permanent post, full time post, however, those interested in part time or job share are welcome to apply.

Informal enquiries are welcome to:

Dr Kelly J Alexander, Social Work subject lead, via k.j.alexander@brighton.ac.uk.

Further details:

The University is committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment for all staff regardless of age, disability, family or caring responsibilities, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief (including non-belief), sex and sexual orientation. We embrace equality and diversity in our working, learning, research and teaching environment and are committed to maintaining a supportive and inclusive community. We particularly encourage applicants from Minority Ethnic backgrounds because the University is under-represented by Minority Ethnic staff.
