The University of Cumbria and Imperial College London have formed a strategic partnership to open a new medical school to develop and deliver the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM). The first students start a bespoke 4-year post graduate MBBS programme in 2025/26. Applying the University of Cumbria’s experience in training nurses, midwives and other professions allied to medicine, alongside Imperial’s expertise in medical education, we aim to produce doctors who are embedded in their local community ready to contribute to services across the region and beyond.

As our Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) Senior Technician, you will lead technical support for a new innovative medical programme. You will be involved in supporting the practical delivery of teaching activities within the medical programme, this will include support for lectures and all students learning and teaching activities which are held in simulated wards, laboratory settings and classroom-based lecture rooms.

The purpose of this role is to ensure the lecturing teams are supported in delivering all teaching activities, including laboratory-based sessions, clinical simulation using manikins and equipment used in simulation activities, clinical skills, anatomy and clinical equipment-based sessions, setting up and clearing down sessions as required. This will involve the acquisition of equipment, ensuring equipment is fit for purpose and checking that it is in correct working order before use, you will need to have experience of using simulation equipment. You will work closely with the academic team to ensure that they have the correct equipment, consumables and facilities to deliver teaching sessions. Ordering and maintaining stock levels of consumables will also be a key role to ensure the smooth running of lectures.

With excellent communication skills, you will collaborate with colleagues across the university to support recruitment and marketing activities related to the PCSM and the University of Cumbria. You will also work closely with colleagues within the University of Cumbria and PCSM academic team to contribute to plans for future growth.
