About the Role
The Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Research Assistant to join the laboratory of Silvia Marino to study epigenetic dysregulation in brain tumours and how it can be leveraged to develop new therapeutic approaches for these patients. The successful candidate will provide experimental support for different research projects as well as conduct their own studies. Tasks include deriving, characterising and maintaining primary brain tumour cultures, cellular reprogramming of normal adult cells to iPSC, preparation of samples for transcriptional and epigenetic profiling.
About You
Applicants should have an MSc (or PhD) in biochemistry or molecular biology or related fields, be motivated, self-driven and able to work in a diverse group including experimental and computational researchers. Hands on experience with basic techniques in molecular and cell biology is essential. Expertise in experimental and data analysis workflows of transcriptomic and epigenetic profiling and generation of genetically engineered cell lines is an advantage. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team, deliver projects within an agreed time frame, and maintain good laboratory records are also essential. We are keen to support the successful candidate in any technical areas in which they do not have prior knowledge.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
