Research Associate in Maternal and Fetal Health

We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to join a research project team directed by Prof Alexander Heazell entitled ‘Perinatal Loss - Early Referral for Counselling (PEARL-C): A Feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial’, funded by Tommy’s charity. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of perinatal bereavement counselling. The Research Associate will be expected to develop the study design, apply for governance approvals, administer questionnaires, conduct research interviews and to undertake the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data obtained from participants. You will also work with the project steering group to make plans to disseminate findings. We anticipate that this feasibility study will lead to an application to an appropriate NIHR programme for a larger-scale definitive trial.

The position is part time – 17.5 hours per week for a 7 month fixed contract. The appointment will be made at Grade 6, £36,024 per annum.

The post holder will work closely with the lead investigator to develop and refine the research protocol, apply for necessary research approvals, to administer questionnaires, conduct research interviews, and analyse these to identify and improve outcome experiences for service users and maternity staff. The postholder will also work with the Project Steering Group to make plans to disseminate findings and helping to ensure that all aspects of the project are running to plan and maintaining relevant paperwork.

The postholder will require an ability to plan, organize and undertake a complex workload with multiple and competing priorities including managing a qualitative and quantitative study, competent computer skills including relevant scientific and analytical software and an understanding of ethical and clinical governance procedures. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in working in clinical research conducting trials in a healthcare/social science related discipline. Previous experience in maternity research is desirable.
