The University is seeking to appoint an Accountancy Assistant to join its Professional Services team in the Finance, Planning and Analytics Department. This team is responsible for providing financial advice and guidance to Heads of Department, and other key staff within Professional Services, to support strategic and operational decision making. We also carry out a range of professional accountancy tasks including planning, forecasting, management accounting and monitoring of budgets. The post will give you the opportunity to be involved in a wide mix of many exciting and developing areas of the University and to support Management Accountants with their work.
The University of Southampton is a thriving and ambitious institution with over 20,000 students and 5,000 staff. The University is highly rated for teaching, research and entrepreneurial activities and is a member of the Russell Group of leading UK universities. The Finance Department employs approximately 200 staff with several opportunities to progress or move around internally. We currently have a blended approach of working between home and the office (Highfield Campus) and invite candidates to explore how this would look like if they were to join our team.
The successful candidate should be well organised, analytical and self-motivated, with great communication skills, a working knowledge of Excel, and some accounting knowledge. An interest in pursuing a financial qualification (such as ACCA or CIMA) is desirable, support for which is available on a competitive basis.
We believe equality, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to making the University of Southampton a welcoming, vibrant and successful organisation. Having a diverse workforce, inclusive of people of all ages and beliefs, from different racial, educational and social backgrounds opens up a wealth of possibilities, makes us more creative and accelerates our impact on society. We welcome applicants that value the diversity of our community and are willing to play their part in supporting the mission of inclusivity.
