Founded in 2003, ICON College of Technology and Management is a private higher and further education institution based in the East End of London and has in excess of 1,500 students. The College seeks to improve its student offerings year on year and develop a student-centred learning experience based on current teaching and learning pedagogies, and systems of assessment. The College also seeks to satisfy the ever-increasing demands on higher education required by the Office for Students (OfS) and the Department for Education (DfE) in terms of widening participation. In the past eighteen months the College has established a partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University. This means that in addition to offering its Higher National Diploma (HND) qualifications awarded by Pearson, the College can now also provide a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree level courses. The Student Monitoring Officer will provide administrative support to the academic team of the College, in particular Vice Principal (Academic Affairs) and Head of Departments. The role will help the academic team to track and monitor students’ progression, the submission of assignments, providing support where necessary and therefore providing a high-level professional support service to the section and students.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of a Student Monitoring Officer include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring and administrating of student progress and completion of the courses
  • Tracking of assignment submission and being proactive in identification of student support requirements in this respect
  • Contacting and advising students in regards to their assignment(s) submission/resubmission
  • Providing an accurate and timely advice to staff and students on issues relating to the progression and assignment submission/resubmission.
  • Oversight of the academic student journey, including the recording of assessment results, monitoring and tracking students repeat units, requests for mitigating circumstances, etc.
  • Making sure that students are taking their repeat/resit units at appropriate timing
  • To liaise with teaching staff to ensure that those students in need of additional skills support are given the activities to allow them to have the chance to progress
  • Manage a caseload of individual students who require additional and ongoing support and guidance to enable them to engage with their studies in a meaningful and unhampered manner but in line with College processes and aims
  • Liaising and informing College Monitoring team in regard to the students’ attendance at appropriate timing
  • Provide administrative support on all aspects relating to College Examination office, including liaison with Students, Tutors, Head of the Departments and College Management.
  • Act as a responsible and active team member, meeting agreed deadlines and developing productive working relationships with other members of staff, demonstrating by example that the views of other team members are respected
  • Ensuring that all required data is provided in a timely manner to maintain the College’s Academic Quality processes and standards.
  • Any other relevant duties assigned by line manager as and when required

Person Specification

The key skills and qualities of a Student Academic Monitoring Officer are:

  • You should have administrative experience of working within an organisation dealing with a wide range of individuals. You should be proactive, have good communication and interpersonal skills and be flexible. 
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a professional approach to all aspects of this demanding role. 
  • Previous experience in a similar position is essential
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Impeccable written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Experience of working in academia is preferable
  • Minimum graduate level is preferable

BENEFITS:

The College will offer a competitive salary within the range of £32K-34K, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition, there will be 33 days holiday per annum for a full-time candidate, including 8 statutory Bank Holidays. For a full-time member of staff there is a 5-8% pension contribution.
