The Graphic Design and Illustration programme at University of Hertfordshire is a successful, award-winning programme with a track record of employability in leading studios and agencies. We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Graphic Design with a specific focus on the integration of theory and practice to provide high quality teaching and module leadership within BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Design: Advertising and Branding and BA (Hons) Illustration with the potential to contribute to other programmes as appropriate.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Lecturer in Graphic Design (Theory and Practice) will lead, contribute to and develop modules on the BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Design: Advertising and Branding, BA (Hons) Illustration and other programmes as appropriate. You will have a good knowledge and understanding of current learning and teaching methods which relate to these subject areas and develop and implement teaching and learning materials of a high standard which explore contemporary debates, ethical issues, historical perspectives and theoretical approaches to Graphic Design.
You will develop ways to connect Critical and Contextual Studies components to the practical modules in the programme, which is likely to include teaching on both theory and practice modules and develop and implement teaching materials which encourage and celebrate diversity within the curriculum, including non-western perspectives and debates surrounding current industry practice. The successful candidate will undertake work leading to research outcomes or scholarly activities within the school on an annual basis, with a minimum of one research project per year.
Skills and experience required
The post holder will have relevant professional experience in the field of graphic design with an emphasis on contemporary practice and excellent knowledge and understanding of graphic communication design histories, theories and debates as well as issues relating to contemporary practice. They will have the ability to teach technical graphic skills including typography and layout as well as an understanding of design processes and have the ability to deliver studio-based graphic design modules.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in graphic communication design related disciplines.
