We are seeking an enthusiastic technician to work with us on an exciting portfolio of projects related to airways disease and lung cancer. Broadly speaking our aims are to use model systems and primary tissue to develop new approaches to understanding the pathogenesis of lung disease and identify new targets for intervention.
A major aspect of the role will be the expansion, culture and differentiation of primary cells directly from patients and mice. This will support complex cell culture experiments. Analysis techniques will include including single cell sequencing, histology, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence and microscopy. There should be ample opportunities to expand a skill set.
Other aspects of the role will include collection of clinical samples from partner NHS trusts. This will sometimes require a driving licence. As samples are sometimes received nearer the end of the working day or out-of-hours, there may be an occasional requirement to work later to ensure these are processed appropriately, but time off in lieu will be given for this.
You will have experience of laboratory research work, to include cell culture, basic cell biology techniques such as DNA/RNA/protein extraction, western blotting and knowledge of relevant regulations. Experience of in vivo mouse work, complex cell culture, immunostaining and microscopy will be an advantage.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr Frank McCaughan at fm319@cam.ac.uk
