About the College/Department
The International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGS) was established in 1998 and is the hub for careers research at the University of Derby, leading on research and consultancy to schools, education providers, the wider education sector, and Government. It has a lifelong focus and addresses education policy, practice, and research from early years to older workers. iCeGS core areas of focus include career education and guidance; career management skills; higher education; and SEND and inclusion. We conduct research which is influential and contributes to evidencing the impact of career guidance on social justice. iCeGS is central to the Education REF submission and contributes extensively to outputs and impact measures.
In addition, the centre has a long history in delivering initial training and CPD for the Career Development sector. We have a teaching and learning portfolio which includes the MA in Career Guidance and Development incorporating the Qualification in Career Guidance (QCD), and we deliver Career Leaders training both accredited and non-accredited. We also supervise doctoral students on professional doctorates and PhD programmes.
We are committed to research informed teaching which ensures our students have access to latest research and have an experience which establishes them as thought leaders for the future.
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer in Career Development (Teaching) to support the growth and development of our teaching and learning portfolio. This currently includes the MA in Career Guidance and Development which incorporates the Qualification in Career Development (QCD) awarded by the Career Development Institute and our Career Leaders programmes. You will work closely with the programme leader to deliver a high-quality student experience which equips students to become outstanding practitioners. You will have an opportunity to contribute to future development of the programme and apply their expertise and knowledge through leading modules.
You will take the lead for the career leaders programme, currently funded through the Careers & Enterprise Company.
This roe is part time, 0.5 FTE. Candidates should be aware that teaching on the MA programmes takes place on Saturdays during term time.
About You
You will have experience of providing careers guidance to young people in schools/colleges on an individual level and within a group context. You will have experience in, training, mentoring or supporting staff development through observation of practice. Experience of teaching, curriculum development and the Gatsby Benchmarks would be useful. You will have achieved an MA qualification in a relevant subject and a professional guidance qualification recognised by the Career Development Institute for the UK Career Development Professional Register. This is likely to be the Qualification in Career Development (QCD) or L6/SCQF level 11 Career Guidance and Development. You will have a passion to influence the practice of the next generation of career development professionals.
An interest in and experience of research within the careers sector would be an advantage for this role, as opportunities to contribute to research projects will be available.
