Kew has committed, through its Manifesto for Change 2021-2030, to deliver science-based knowledge and solutions to protect biodiversity and use natural resources sustainably. To help deliver this, our 450 research-focussed staff require grant funding. Our small professional support team, Research Services, provides guidance and support to Kew’s researchers in the application and management of research grants. We’ve recently implemented Worktribe (a SaaS research management platform) and this role will support its continued development and use at Kew.
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the system, ensuring it is appropriately optimised and used to support our staff in accurately applying for, and managing their research grants. You’ll be expected to quickly become the systems expert, working closely with others in Research Services and our researchers who use Worktribe on a daily basis, as well as colleagues in IT, Finance and HR, ensuring it is used accurately for grant applications, oversight and reporting.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in understanding, optimising and supporting others in using IT systems. Ideally, you’ll have experience of using Worktribe, or another research management platform, and be familiar with the external funding landscape for universities and non-HEIs (such as RBG Kew), including an understanding of funders and the approaches they take to grant funding.
You’ll need to be able to take on the role of systems-expert, providing staff with the guidance they need to utilise the platform appropriately. Where optimisation or updates are required, you’ll be able to work methodically and practically to ensure appropriate testing occurs before implementing. You’ll also need to be a great communicator – whether it is providing updates to help documentation, user notes or delivering front-line support to users.
Importantly, you’ll need to also be able to work across Kew with our finance, IT and HR colleagues to ensure the system is integrated and supporting staff and budget management across the organisation. And where necessary work with external partners to access the support and development of the platform to meet Kew’s needs.
While experience of working in a biodiversity-focussed research institution is not a requirement, it is essential you’ll be able to understand your role in the delivery of Kew’s Science Strategy 2021-2025 and beyond.
This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.
