We are happy to offer the opportunity in the South Sciences Technical Team for a highly organised and efficient candidate with a passion for science.
Working predominantly in the Departments of Chemistry and Department of Life Sciences, your key focus will be providing support and assistance to our wider Technical Services Team.
About the role
Providing support for our researchers, you will be responsible for incoming compressed gas cylinder orders and their delivery.
You will work with the stores team to ensure gas cylinder stocks are maintained.
Collecting and categorising chemical and biological waste is significant part of this role.
Ensuring facility processes are followed and queries are escalated is crucial for safe operations.
The post holder will carry out regular checks of communal facilities, carry out deliveries across the faculty, ensure that housekeeping is of a high standard and raise any safety issues with senior members of the team.
They will contribute to the smooth running of our departments’ communal research facilities by carrying out autoclaving, scientific wash–up, and assisting senior members of staff in glasshouse and organism facilities.
This post-holder will also PAT test analytical equipment and instrumentation in research labs, several sessions per week.
The post holder will not, however, carry out any research.
About you
You will be experienced in chemistry, hazardous waste operations or waste management processes.
A diplomatic approach is essential, where communicating effectively and in an engaging manner are key to the success of this post.
Efficiency and organisation are also of great importance in this high-paced role, that would be suited to a motivated, conscientious and proactive person.
