About the Role

As an IT Support Technician, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the University’s 13,000 Windows, Mac, and Linux computers, helping academics, staff, and students resolve a wide range of technical issues.

You'll be part of a dynamic environment where every day presents new challenges. Depending on your assignment, you may work within any of our three IT support teams:

  • Service Desk – Providing remote support via phone, email, and chat (this role)
  • Outreach – Delivering in-person technical support at desks, labs, or other on-site locations.
  • Tech Hub – Offering face-to-face support at our drop-in hubs.

All teams work at the same skill level providing the same fast, effective solutions, resolving issues on the spot whenever possible.

This vacancy is a job share in the Service Desk team based at our Highfield campus in Southampton (we do not offer hybrid working contracts). There are 14 hours per week available between 8am and 6pm.

What you’ll do

  • Provide support for the University’s staff and students in the use of just about any technology they need for their work or studies.
  • Support systems including Azure, Office365, SharePoint and a wide variety of other applications and network services.
  • Take ownership of support incidents and use your troubleshooting skills to see them through to resolution.
  • Provide advice and guidance that enables our customers to harness the full power of the available technology.
