About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead high-quality operations project management for the prestigious NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). Based in the College of Life Sciences, you will join the NIHR BRC Core Management Group led by Professor Melanie Davies, liaising closely with partner and stakeholder organisations. Your role is critical in ensuring seamless collaboration between academic staff, NHS partnerships and professional services to deliver translational research for patient benefit. You will support strategic leadership, enhance BRC service quality, and ensure efficient operations across the BRC, College of Life Sciences, Institute of Precision Health, and Research and Enterprise Division.
The NIHR Leicester BRC, a collaboration between the University of Leicester, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Loughborough University, and University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group, has secured £26.1 million for groundbreaking research in respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and more. Our expanded research includes new areas such as personalized cancer prevention and treatment, environmental impacts on long-term health conditions, and data-driven studies on ethnic minority health issues.
As the Operations Support Manager, you will oversee BRC projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet objectives, timelines, and budgets. You will coordinate project teams, develop project plans with clear timelines and milestones, monitor progress, and communicate project status and outcomes to stakeholders. Additionally, you will identify and mitigate risks, resolving issues promptly, and conduct post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned.
About you
We are looking for a candidate with a degree in biomedical science or a related field, preferably with a project or process management qualification. You should have experience in a research environment and in managing research projects. Proficiency in IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, is essential.
You should demonstrate adaptability, responsiveness to changing circumstances, and the ability to master new topics quickly. Strong written and oral communication skills are crucial for effective interaction with staff and stakeholders. You should be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and have excellent time management and attention to detail. Additionally, you should be able to generate original ideas and solutions and represent the Leicester BRC and University effectively at meetings.
