The University of Greater Manchester is a “Teaching Intensive, Research Informed” higher education institution whose distinctive, high-quality, student-focused undergraduate and postgraduate programmes attract students from all over the world.
We are seeking to appoint a full-time position and one part-time for Associate Lecturer / Lecturer in Motorsports Engineering within our School of Engineering. The successful candidate will join a dedicated academic team delivering programmes under the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering (NCME), which prides itself on providing high-quality, industry-relevant education.
The main function of this role is to educate and mentor students by delivering engaging and rigorous teaching in areas such as thermodynamics, aerodynamics, vehicle design and performance, CAD design, and data acquisition software. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate programme delivery, supervise student work, and assist with curriculum development. You will also be expected to contribute to the School’s research and enterprise activities and work collaboratively to enhance the learning experience of our students.
Applicants should hold an Honours degree in a relevant subject, ideally in Motorsports Engineering. Registration with a relevant professional body, such as the IMechE, is essential, or you must be willing to achieve this within a set timeframe. You should have relevant teaching or academic delivery experience and the ability to apply first-principles engineering knowledge in an educational setting. A willingness to obtain a teaching qualification and/or fellowship of the Higher Education Academy is expected, if not already held. You should also be committed to undertaking a PhD or Professional Doctorate if you do not currently possess one.
A PhD/Professional Doctorate, Chartered Engineer status, and experience in working with industry or developing applied partnerships would be highly desirable. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to subject-specific research and to building external links that enhance the student experience and support employability.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking, professionally focused institution where innovation, student engagement, and applied learning are at the heart of everything we do.
We ask a lot from our staff but in return you will receive a competitive benefits package including access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, and employee benefits scheme and generous annual leave entitlement. As a small University, you will have opportunities to work with colleagues across campus to support and deliver the best student experience possible.
