The Role

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Liaison Officer to lead our employer engagement strategy. You will be the main institutional contact for industry, helping to secure:

  • Student work placements and internships
  • Graduate employment progression pipelines
  • Industry-informed curriculum development
  • Partnerships for apprenticeships, CPD, and collaborative projects

This is a pivotal role, working closely with academic teams and senior management to ensure our students graduate with the practical experience and industry insight needed to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain partnerships with employers across multiple disciplines
  • Secure and manage work-based learning opportunities for students
  • Organise employer visits, talks, project briefs, and industry days
  • Act as the institutional liaison to employers, professional bodies, and trade associations
  • Advise programme teams on current and emerging industry needs
  • Track and report on placement outcomes and employer satisfaction
  • Support the development of apprenticeship readiness and CPD offerings 

Person Specification

Essential

  • A recognised degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronic)
  • Ideally, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in employer liaison, industrial engagement, or workforce development
  • Strong track record of initiating and maintaining workplace partnerships
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • In-depth understanding of one or more UK industry sectors
  • Organisational and reporting skills, with CRM or database experience
  • Willingness to travel regionally and represent the institution externally
  • Previously held a similar role and recently retired from industry or academia 

Desirable

  • Experience in UK Higher Education/Further Education sector
  • Familiarity with ESFA, IfATE, or apprenticeship regulatory frameworks
  • Background in business development, HR, or training roles within industry
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional recognition
  • Experience liaising with employers in hospitality, business, computing, or science-related fields
