About the External Relations Directorate
The External Relations Directorate at the University of East London (UEL) is a dynamic, collaborative hub made up of dedicated teams across Digital, Marketing, Communications, Recruitment, Design, Events, Admissions, and Outreach. We are digital-first, forward-thinking, and focused on innovation and excellence in how we engage with our students, staff, and external audiences
About the Job
We’re looking for a proactive and creative Digital Content Officer to help shape the online experience for the thousands of users visiting uel.ac.uk. You’ll be part of a small, friendly team of four, working across high-impact web content and ensuring an outstanding, accessible, and user-first digital presence for the university.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same – from editing homepage content to collaborating with stakeholders on new pages and digital campaigns. You’ll need to be comfortable using a content management system (ideally Drupal), have a keen eye for high-quality copy, and be passionate about delivering content that works for real users.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, edit, publish and optimise content across uel.ac.uk using our CMS
- Solve content problems with clarity, confidence, and a user-first mindset
- Work closely with UX, design, marketing and comms colleagues to ensure consistency across user journeys
- Provide support, advice and training to colleagues on web content best practice
- Apply SEO principles, accessibility standards and editorial tone of voice
- Plan and build new pages, update existing ones, test components and manage redirects
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the university, offering guidance and support
What You’ll Need to thrive:
We’re looking for someone who brings collaboration and attention to detail. You’ll thrive in this role if you’re:
- Experienced in using a CMS (Drupal preferred) to manage and publish website content
- A confident communicator with excellent written English and editorial judgement
- Comfortable solving complex content problems and explaining your thinking to others
- Skilled in SEO, accessibility, and user-centred content design principles
- A team player who can also work independently and take initiative
- Curious, tech-savvy and ready to grow your digital skill set
