We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Co-Director to join our talented team at Kleijnen Systematic Reviews Ltd. In this role you will be a part of the leadership team which defines the strategic direction of KSR to ensure the long-term success of the business. Furthermore, you will provide an oversight into scientific project leadership to support the commissioner’s requirements and project management, whilst providing review expertise and guidance to support the successful delivery of projects.

As a Co-Director, working alongside the Managing Director and part of the Statutory Board of Company Directors, you will work with the EOT Board of Trustees and leadership team to develop the strategic direction of the Company to ensure future growth and success. Through collaboration with the Managing Director, ensuring pro-active leadership through sound financial acumen, development of project acquisition, proactive marketing solutions and the engagement of colleagues.

Kleijnen Systematic Reviews Ltd (KSR) is going through a phase of substantial growth and development and is therefore actively recruiting new talent in multiple roles.

The Role & Responsibilities

Leadership responsibilities include the following:

  • Leadership: Working with the Managing Director as Statutory Board members presenting and advising the EOT Board of Trustees on the financial and strategic performance of the company
  • Management of Resources: Managing and monitoring financial and staff resources as a whole whilst providing oversight on projects to ensure timelines and requirements are achieved whilst projects are within budget
  • Efficiency: Developing and executing KSR’s strategy with the Statutory Board and EOT Board of Trustees, participating in the regular meetings of the Management Team to ensure that all aspects of KSR run efficiently
  • Financial Planning: As part of the Management Team, formulating and planning income and expenditure ensuring overall growth and budgetary targets are achieved
  • Business Development: Improving KSR’s business development by generating research income from a variety of sources including government, industry and academia
  • Development of People: Coaching, mentoring and training internal and external people in the conduct of evidence syntheses
  • Recruitment: Contributing to the recruitment of colleagues to create a balanced portfolio of expertise and skills
  • Decision-making: Working alongside the Managing Director, making informed decisions on behalf of the company.

In addition to providing overall Company leadership, scientific responsibilities include the following:

  • Systematic Review Process: Leading, contributing, and implementing all aspects of evidence syntheses, ensuring performance deliverables are achieved
  • Dossiers: Supervising, preparing, and critiquing dossiers used for HTAs and presenting the findings in meetings with commissioners such as NICE to inform evidence-based healthcare decision-making
  • Positive Resolution: Effectively managing and guiding the project team, ensuring any challenges are resolved in a timely manner
  • Collaboration and Engagement: Formulating project teams consisting of internal and external colleagues, and maintaining continuous engagement with colleagues to collaboratively discuss projects
  • Business Growth: Contributing to business development:
    • Consideration of potential projects in response to requests from commissioners or tenders
    • Liaising with commissioners to clarify the requirements of planned work
    • Leading a team developing proposals for funding potential projects
    • Actively managing and maintaining commissioner relationships to identify future business opportunities
    • Supervision of, and involvement in, dissemination activities
    • Networking and developing new sources of funding; this will involve UK and potentially overseas travel
  • Stay Current: Attending seminars, training courses and other external events to keep in touch with particular disciplinary interests.

Ideal Candidate

  • Clear understanding and experience of strong governance, financial and performance management
  • Knowledge of business finance aspects, such as cash flow, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, VAT, and company accounts
  • Evidence of recent achievements and success in a senior leadership/director role, operating confidently across several management levels with the ability to manage, motivate, and co-ordinate staff, delegating effectively
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and project managing the successful delivery of multiple projects, i.e., ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet specific timeframes
  • Adhering to business strategy, engaging with the team, and building trust and confidence
  • Adherence to confidentiality requirements associated with the role
  • Significant experience in the design, conduct and reporting of SRs and HTAs, and a working knowledge of relevant statistical methods, i.e., meta-analysis, meta-regression analysis, indirect treatment comparisons, matching-adjusted indirect comparisons (MAICs)
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring and developing a large team
  • Proven experience of health services research. e.g., background in statistics, medicine, public health, clinical epidemiology, economics, biochemistry or psychology.
  • Experience in artificial intelligence applications and/or development relevant to systematic reviews.

Work-Life Balance & Flexible Working: We are keen to support family-friendly, flexible working arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance. The role is offered as full or part-time (60% fte over a minimum of 3 days). This position is a hybrid, office-based role with an expectation to attend the office a minimum of 3 days per week (100% fte).
