About the School / Service 

The School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering (ACE) at the University of East London is home to a wide range of innovative and industry-focused courses, from Mechatronics, Biomedical, and Electrical Vehicles Engineering to Civil, Structural and Robotic Engineering. About the Job

We are looking for a Technical Associate (Civil, Structural and Transport) to join our team at the University of East London. This is an exciting opportunity to support teaching, learning, and research within our specialist laboratories and workshops. You will play a key role in maintaining and demonstrating technical equipment, supporting students and staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

Essential Experience Required

  • To support the academic courses and research of the students and staff of the University at an intermediate or advanced level of competency. 
  • To ensuring the availability of equipment, software, materials, and resources necessary to successfully meet School teaching and research aims.
  • To ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and protocols in technical environments at an advanced level of competency. 
  • To provide first-line technical support to staff and students in the form of sample preparation, demonstrations through teaching and outreach events.  
  • Conduct and oversee regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of technical software and equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety, including but not limited to PAT testing of tools and equipment. 
  • Support the coordination and scheduling of technical resources for teaching, events, meetings, workshops, and demonstrations. 

About You

You should have:

  • Intermediate experience in civil (geotechnical, hydraulic, transport) and structural engineering experiments, sample preparation, instrumentation; running data acquisition systems, maintenance and calibration of equipment, and related fields.
  • Intermediate experience of working in a small team. 
  • Intermediate capability of using suite of equipment/applications relevant for Civil Engineering environments, including but not limited to hydraulic flumes, CBR, Simple beam/truss, and Triaxial Shear apparatus.  
  • Advanced knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and good practices applicable to the technical group. 
  • Experience working in Higher Education or an educational setting.
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant area, or gained substantive equivalent experience in a relevant field.
