About the School / Service
We are Student Services and are responsible for nurturing wellness, supporting individual needs, helping students in crisis, improving retention, and enabling positive experiences through residential life and extra-curricular activities. Working in partnership across academic schools and professional services, our teams seek to provide a network of support throughout the student journey and aim to optimise student success.
The Student Services directorate is led by the Assistant Chief Operating Officer, Health Gain & Student Experience. Our department incorporates a number of professional and support teams including Student HUB, Student Conduct, Academic Tutoring, Residential Life, Student Disability and Dyslexia, Student Life, Student Money Advice and Rights Team, Student Engagement, Retention and Success and Student Wellbeing.
About the Job
The Residential Life Assistant – Estates Operations supports the effective day to day management of the University of East London’s Halls of Residence. This role helps ensure our accommodation is safe and welcoming by assisting with estate operations, health and safety compliance, and customer service delivery.
You will be involved in a wide range of responsibilities, from coordinating turnaround schedules and assisting with maintenance and cleaning checks, to supporting disciplinary processes and promoting student wellbeing. A key part of the role includes contributing to the operational delivery of our Summer Conferencing programme, helping to provide a seamless and professional service for guests during the summer months.
Working as part of a customer-focused team, you will play an important role in enhancing the student and guest experience, supporting compliance with standards such as the UUK Code of Practice, and ensuring our residences remain a positive and vibrant place to live and learn.
This is a campus-based role, with regular weekend work required.
- Experience in customer service, ideally in accommodation, estates, or hospitality.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices and a commitment to compliance.
- Experience of handling sensitive or disciplinary issues with professionalism.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- A proactive, problem-solving approach and a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and build positive relationships with residents and guests.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and dependable individual with a strong commitment to delivering excellent service. You thrive in practical, hands-on roles and enjoy balancing operational responsibilities with resident support. With excellent communication skills, you can handle challenging situations calmly and fairly, ensuring positive outcomes for students, guests, and the wider Residential Life team.
Detail-oriented and organised, you take pride in completing inspections, maintaining accurate records, and contributing ideas to improve the residential experience. You are flexible, a strong team player, and comfortable working independently when required. Above all, you are motivated by creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment that enables students to thrive and guests to feel at home.
