About the School / Service

We are Student Services and are responsible for nurturing wellness, supporting individual needs, helping students in crisis, improving retention, and enabling positive experiences through residential life and extra-curricular activities. Working in partnership across academic schools and professional services, our teams seek to provide a network of support throughout the student journey and aim to optimise student success.

The Student Services directorate is led by the Assistant Chief Operating Officer, Health Gain & Student Experience. Our department incorporates a number of professional and support teams including Student HUB, Student Conduct, Academic Tutoring, Residential Life, Student Disability and Dyslexia, Student Life, Student Money Advice and Rights Team, Student Engagement and Retention Team and Student Wellbeing.

About the Job

Working within the Student Engagement & Retention Team (SERT), you will play a vital role in supporting students to stay engaged and succeed at UEL, combining data insights with compassionate early intervention to help those at risk of disengagement.

We are recruiting two new colleagues, each with a focus on a distinct thematic area: Early Intervention (First Year) or Low Attendance. These varied roles involve monitoring the attendance and engagement of at-risk student groups, and working closely with colleagues across Schools and Services to ensure students continue to feel supported and connected.

By applying policies fairly, building effective referral pathways, and making use of digital innovations such as learning analytics and process automation, you will contribute directly to improving retention, progression, and student outcomes. With a strong on-campus presence, you will have the opportunity to make a measurable difference to the student experience.

We welcome applicants from a variety of professional backgrounds who can demonstrate strong transferable skills and a commitment to developing their expertise in student engagement and data-driven support.

About You

You will bring a blend of analytical ability, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to compassionate student support. You may already have experience working with complex datasets and systems, or transferable skills that show you can use evidence to inform decisions, improve processes, and deliver measurable outcomes.

You will have strong skills in Excel and data manipulation, and either confidence using Power BI or a clear willingness to develop quickly in this area. You will also be open to using digital innovations to strengthen monitoring and interventions, with the ability to translate data into timely, supportive action for students at risk of disengagement.

Alongside your technical skills, you will be an excellent communicator who can build strong relationships across Schools and Professional Services, collaborate on cross-departmental initiatives, and act as a trusted point of contact for staff and students. You will also have the organisational skills to plan, prioritise, and deliver workstreams that contribute directly to SERT’s goals and UEL’s Vision 2028 strategy.

If you are motivated by the chance to combine data-driven insights with compassionate interventions, influence positive change, and help shape innovative approaches to student support, this role offers you an exciting opportunity to make a real impact.
