The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant leadership impact within the Department of Architecture and Built Environment. They will participate in department level organisation, management and strategic planning and will also contribute to the Universitys strategic planning processes. 

They will take responsibility for the quality and design of modules and programmes to maintain high teaching standards and contribute generally to the development of teaching methods and assessments in the department, especially in the areas of building science and building/urban technologies. 

They will act as principal investigator on major research projects in the field of smart and sustainable buildings/urban energy systems and will identify opportunities for the development of new research projects. 

They may have line management responsibilities including responsibility for the professional development of the teaching team and contribute to the overall administration of the School. 

Candidates must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • An extensive track record in the development and delivery of teaching units with proven ability to provide effective leadership and management of groups and teaching activities.
  • Proven ability with demonstrated success in obtaining sources of funding, providing effective leadership, planning, building, and resourcing of a team to deliver research results, evidenced by an established national and growing international reputation with an extensive track record of publications.
  • Previous experience of successfully supervising PhD students to completion.
  • Proven record of promoting and maintaining collaborative links with industry/business/community.excellent communication skills in English, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment.

Salary will be within the range of RMB 635,038 to RMB 780,622 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition, an attractive package including employment support allowance, schooling and insurance will be provided for international appointments. 

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of up to 5 years with effect from February 2026 or thereafter as soon as possible. This contract may be extended by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
