About the School / Service
Library, Archives, and Learning Services (LALS) is a diverse and customer-focused service committed to supporting learning, teaching, and research at UEL, with two campus libraries providing a range of study spaces and a wealth of online resources and services that enhance the experience of all members of the UEL community. Proud holders of the Customer Service Excellence award, LALS has also consistently improved its National Student Survey (NSS) scores and has received praise from students for its outstanding customer service.
About the Job
Working within Library, Archives and Learning Services (LALS) as part of the Customer Services team, the role supports the delivery of high quality, customer-focused library, archives and open access IT support to a diverse learning, teaching and research community.
Using excellent customer service and communication skills, the postholder will respond to enquiries received face-to-face or online and provide advice and guidance on the use of library services, facilities and resources, referring or escalating to colleagues or external services when required. The postholder will also provide high quality front-line support for commonly encountered IT issues, including advice on printing; accessing Wi-Fi; use of Office 365 and other supported software; e-submission and the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
The postholder will contribute to the smooth running of the library and help maintain an appropriate study environment for library users; troubleshooting equipment faults; reporting maintenance and health & safety issues; and collecting usage data and feedback to support service improvement.
Collaborating with colleagues throughout LALS, the postholder will also support a range of key library services and processes (e.g., stock acquisition and management; digital reading lists, UEL’s free e-textbook scheme; and interlibrary loans), and participate in LALS events and outreach activities promoting LALS and the services it provides to the UEL community.
About You
You have excellent customer service skills acquired through your experience of working in a library or similar customer-focused environment.
You have strong digital/IT skills, are at ease with productivity and communication tools used in work and education (such as Office 365), and have experience of supporting others in the use of IT and digital resources.
You are an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt your verbal, written, and digital communication to meet the needs of the customer.
You are supportive and encouraging of others, with a flexible and communicative approach to teamworking and collaboration.
You are proactive with strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage and prioritise your workload effectively.
You demonstrate a commitment to, and understanding of, equality and diversity issues within a diverse and multicultural environment.
