Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a creative and strategic Social Media Officer to join our Marketing and External Relations team. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver our social media presence, helping us attract prospective students, and strengthen our reputation among diverse audiences.

You will lead on planning, creating, and managing engaging content across our corporate social media channels, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X. Working closely with colleagues in the Marketing team and student ambassadors, you’ll ensure our content is innovative, on-brand, and aligned with key recruitment and reputation goals.

This is a permanent role, on a full-time 35 hour a week contract, with a salary of £34,827 rising to £38,981 per annum, and 31 days paid leave each year (which includes set holiday dates at Easter and Christmas) in addition to bank holidays.

As our Social Media Officer at Birkbeck, you will:

  • Develop and implement a social media plan to support student recruitment and brand build.
  • Create compelling content (video, images, infographics) tailored to different platforms and audiences.
  • Monitor and respond to comments and queries across channels, ensuring timely and accurate engagement.
  • Analyse performance data and produce monthly reports to inform strategy.
  • Recruit and manage student ambassadors, providing training and creative direction.
  • Stay ahead of social media trends and apply insights to enhance engagement.

To succeed as Social Media Officer, you will have:

  • Extensive experience managing social media for a large organisation.
  • Strong creative skills in video production, photography, and design using tools like Canva, CapCut, and Adobe.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and analytics tools.
  • Ability to develop and implement social media strategies that drive engagement and deliver measurable results.
  • Knowledge of the higher education sector and student recruitment cycles is also desirable.

This opportunity would build on experience as a Social Media Officer, Social Media Assistant, Social Media Executive, Marketing Officer, or Marketing Assistant.

Salary and benefits

£34,827 rising to £38,981 per year, Grade 5 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London weighting allowance.

Contract
