About the role

This post is an excellent opportunity to work within the Library Liaison Team (Business, Engineering and Natural Sciences) at Imperial College London. As Senior Library Assistant for Natural Sciences, you will be part of a friendly team that provides high-quality support to meet the learning, teaching and research needs of staff and students.

The role offers excellent scope for professional development and is ideal for individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of academic librarianship. You will gain experience in a wide range of academic support activities, including teaching, reading list management, and user engagement. You’ll be encouraged to contribute ideas, take initiative, and develop your own areas of interest while also having access to training and development opportunities to help you build your skills.

What you would be doing

In this role you will assist the Liaison Librarians by performing multiple tasks including:

  • preparing and delivering library inductions and teaching sessions;
  • answering enquiries and providing one-to-one support;
  • assisting with collection development and stock management;
  • assisting with the collection and development of reading lists;
  • assisting in the creation of guidance and support material in a variety of formats.

What we are looking for

You will have experience of working in an appropriate library environment and possess excellent customer care skills. You should have experience of providing guidance and support in the use of a range of information resources. You will have excellent communication skills and be committed to achieving team goals through cooperation and mutual support.

A summary of the essential requirements (full list of essential criteria are listed in the job description):

  • Education to ‘A’ level, or equivalent qualifications or experience.
  • Experience in delivering library services, ideally within the higher education sector environment.
  • Experience in providing guidance, training and personal support on the use of electronic and print information resources.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Library Management Systems.
  • An enthusiastic, self-motivated team player, who is committed to achieving team goals through cooperation and mutual support.

This is a permanent full-time post, 35 hours per week

This role is based on a hybrid work model, combining remote and in-office work.
