The Department of Biochemistry, a large and flourishing academic community that enjoys a world-class reputation for both teaching and research, is embedded in the School of the Biological Sciences. A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and efficient individual to join the Department as Technical and Scientific Operations Technician - an exciting a varied position. 

Based in a busy and friendly professional services team, and reporting to the Technical and Scientific Operations Manager (TSOM), the successful candidate will join a dedicated team of laboratory and scientific support specialists who work to underpin the Department's performance and reputation as a modern, progressive academic teaching and research institution. 

The successful candidate will work closely with the TSOM to provide technical and logistical support for research and teaching activity across the Department's main buildings on the Downing and Old Addenbrookes sites. This is a key role in support of the smooth and efficient operation of the Department's work. The technician team within the Department and across the School offers a great opportunity for career development and progression, as well as networking and knowledge exchange. 

With a 'can-do' attitude, the successful candidate will contribute to planning, organising and implementing laboratory clearances, including removal of laboratory equipment, chemicals, biological waste, and any related materials as necessary.  They will arrange specialist removals and cleaning as appropriate. In consultation with the TSOM, the successful candidate will liaise with incoming research groups on requirements, arranging move-in procedures and induction protocols. With the opportunity to excel in a variety of tasks, the successful candidate will assist with general departmental technical and scientific operations as detailed in the further particulars linked from this advertisement. 

Due to the nature of the role, the position is based on-site, Monday to Friday. 

Educated to at least A-level or equivalent, the ideal candidate will be experienced in laboratory technician or biological scientific research work and have a clear understanding of technical and practical responsibilities, along with a strong sense of team playing and working flexibly across a varied workload.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
