This new full-time post is available immediately on a fixed term (12 month) basis.
Summary of the role:
The MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) seeks an experienced research technician to join a recently funded 12-month programme of antifungal drug optimisation at the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology. This exciting new programme connects MRC CMM researchers with pharmaceutical industry experts, and clinician scientists in the UK, Uganda and South Africa to optimise the development of new therapies for invasive fungal diseases.
The post holder will be testing a new drug that is in development for phase 2 and 3 clinical trials. It is the most promising antifungal treatment in development, however, many antifungal drugs rapidly lose effectiveness when used in isolation and our previous work has shown that the use of combination treatments (combinations of 2 or 3 different drugs) improve survival and prevent resistance. We have safe, affordable partner drugs, and optimisation of combination antifungal approaches is critical to safeguard the utility and resilience of the new drug before its entry into clinic.
