The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is seeking an experienced and proactive Infrastructure and Sustainability Manager to support the safe, effective and sustainable operation of its laboratory and departmental facilities.
Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating laboratory infrastructure and associated services across the Department, ensuring that research and teaching activities are supported by reliable, compliant and fit-for-purpose facilities. You will work closely with academic staff, laboratory technicians, facilities colleagues and contractors to support laboratory operations, equipment installations and planned infrastructure changes.
A central aspect of the role is leading and embedding sustainability initiatives within departmental operations. This includes supporting energy efficiency, waste and resource reduction and participation in University-wide programmes such as LEAF.
You will also have formal line management responsibility for the Catering and Reception teams, ensuring high quality service delivery and supporting staff development. In addition, you will provide operational guidance on infrastructure-related safety matters, support statutory compliance activities and contribute to risk assessments associated with laboratory works, equipment installations and maintenance activities. The role may deputise for the Technical Operations Manager as required.
You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant scientific or technical discipline, with experience managing laboratory, technical or facilities services in a research environment. You will bring strong organisational and communication skills, an understanding of laboratory infrastructure, building services and a collaborative approach to working with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience supporting sustainability initiatives or facilities compliance activities would be advantageous.
