The University of East Anglia was built to embody a radical new vision for higher education, where interdisciplinarity is crucial, and excellence in both research and teaching is valued. Since 1963, we have been breaking down boundaries between students and researchers, arts and science, business and social responsibility. Today, UEA is consistently ranked within the top quartile of universities in the UK for the quality of its research and teaching, and we continue to tackle major global challenges across our priority research themes of climate, creative, and health.
Following a period of challenge for the UK higher education sector, we have relaunched our ambitious Strategy 2030, setting out how we will “think boldly, do things differently and lead the way”. Strategy 2030 articulates a renewed commitment to delivering outstanding student experience, expanding the scale and impact of our research, and operating as an agile, resilient and values‑driven institution. Joining UEA at this time offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the transformation of the University, helping shape our future direction and ensuring our long‑term prosperity and success.
As the University continues to innovate in pursuit of excellence, we are now seeking an exceptional Pro‑Vice‑Chancellor (Science) to lead our Faculty of Science and deliver on the University’s ambitions to grow and invest in science over the coming years. Reporting to the Vice‑Chancellor & President and serving as a member of the University’s Executive Team, the PVC will encourage creativity and innovation in teaching and research, champion an outstanding student experience, and play a key role in the strategic leadership of the institution.
The Faculty of Science is a vibrant and diverse community Only five schools - Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Computing Sciences, Engineering Maths and Physics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is home to world‑leading research groups and centres and benefits from strong partnerships across the Norwich Research Park. UEA continues to invest in its scientific infrastructure, including the major redevelopment of the iconic Lasdun Wall into modern, sustainable research laboratories aligned with our ambition to be a net‑zero campus by 2045 or earlier.
The Pro‑Vice‑Chancellor (Science) will be an inspiring and inclusive leader with sustained academic leadership experience gained at a strategic level. They will be a leading academic in their discipline, committed to the transformational power of higher education and passionate about delivering high‑impact research and exceptional education. A strategic thinker with a high degree of integrity and excellent judgement, they will demonstrate a strong personal commitment to UEA’s mission, vision, and values.
