York Law School (YLS) is not your typical law school. We are a collegial, student-centered department renowned for our pioneering use of Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Our curriculum doesn't just teach law; it integrates legal problem-solving and professional skills within a collaborative, modern framework.

With a community of over 80 staff and 875 students, we foster an environment built on mutual support, inclusive practice, and a commitment to transforming legal education. We are now seeking two exceptional Senior Lecturers to join our leadership team.

Choose Your Pathway

We are recruiting for two distinct roles. While both contribute to our vibrant PBL curriculum, their focus areas differ:

Senior Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship)

The Focus: Pedagogic Leadership & Student Success.

You will be a champion for excellence in the classroom and beyond. This role is designed for an educator who lives for curriculum design and innovation.

  • Lead: Drive the development of our distinctive PBL model.
  • Mentor: Guide colleagues in their teaching practice and scholarship.
  • Innovate: Create high-impact learning materials and support student success across UG and PG programmes.

Areas of Expertise

We welcome applicants with expertise in any area of law, and particularly those specialising in the areas of:

  • Corporate and Commercial Law
  • Healthcare Law
  • Human Rights Law
  • Tort Law
  • Environmental Law.

Senior Lecturer (Academic, Research & Teaching)

The Focus: Research Excellence & Strategic Impact.

You will be an internationally oriented scholar with a proven track record of high-quality outputs and research leadership.

  • Influence: Contribute to leadership within our Research Excellence Groups.
  • Drive: Lead ambitious research agendas, secure external funding (grant capture), and mentor early-career researchers.
  • Educate: Deliver research-informed teaching that inspires the next generation of legal minds.

Areas of Expertise

We welcome applications from specialists in any area of law. However, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise that aligns with our priority growth areas:

  • Social Welfare and Administrative Justice
  • Health and Law
  • Law and Artificial Intelligence
  • Conflict, Migration and International Law
  • Criminalisation
  • Private Law and Values
