About the Role
We are seeking a PDRA to join a multidisciplinary research team based at the Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Detection. You will contribute to the NIHR-funded project “TRANSforming Cancer Care: Empowering and Improving Trans Lives through Mixed-Methods Cancer Research” (NIHR306560), which aims to transform cancer care for TGD people by identifying and rectifying evidence gaps regarding their healthcare needs and clinical outcomes.
Working under the supervision of Dr Alison May Berner and her collaborators, you will conduct analyses of cancer incidence and outcomes in the transgender and gender diverse population in the Clinical Research Practice Datalink, a large research database of de-identified UK primary care data, as well as other datasets Our Future Health and QResearch. You will contribute to other work packages informed by the results, including qualitative work and a prospective study.
About You
Candidates should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in a relevant discipline, such as as medical statistics, epidemiology, or biomedical science. We are looking for candidates who have a strong quantitative background, with experience analysing large-scale cohort or healthcare datasets such as CPRD, QResearch, or Our Future Health. The ideal candidate will have experience or interest in health research related to cancer, LGBTQ population or inequities.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to 450 staff, 100 PhD students and 500 postgraduate taught students. It harnesses expertise across a wide range of population-based research and education activities and is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health, primary care and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into six research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute’s strategic plan, also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements.
The postholder will be based in the Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis (CCSPED) forms part of the WIPH and brings together globally leading researchers focusing on cancer prevention, cancer screening and detection and early diagnosis across two units. CCSPED also hosts the cross-cutting Cancer Behavioural Science group and the CRUK-funded Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU, Director, Sasieni).
